Although I only added yacht photography to my professional portfolio in 2019 I’m not new to boats. I grew up racing yachts in the shadow of HMNB Clyde submarine base where my great, great grand father founded the Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club.

Sailing a lot with my Dad, a former WW2 Royal Naval Commander gave me a good understanding of how larger ships are run with a good grounding in safety and weather conditions at sea.

Since then I have skippered and crewed sailing and powerboats internationally and obtained commercially endorsed international piloting, first aid, safety and survival qualifications with insurances for hiring crew and power boats to conduct yacht photography at sea off most shores internationally.

My commercial power boat is based at Hamble Point in the Solent of England and is easily moved by road for photography work elsewhere. I have the drone licences needed to photograph boats from the air at sea.
